Phillies vs. Astros: South Jersey family wins World Series ticket lottery twice

BLACKWOOD, New Jersey (WPVI) — A South Jersey family won the Phillies World Series ticket lottery not once but twice.

Bryan and Samantha Meyer signed up for a chance to buy tickets to one of three Phillies home games and found out Wednesday that they both won.

“I said, ‘Did you get the email too?’ And he checked and he got the email too, the same email I got,” Samantha said.

“I said, ‘Sam, we both understand.’ That’s when it hit, like, oh my God, what just happened?” Bryan said.

More than a million people applied for the chance to buy 20,000 tickets available at the Phillies. They were notified by email if they had the opportunity to purchase two tickets.

Being able to buy more than two meant they could take the biggest Phillies fan they know, their 9-year-old daughter Mikayla.

“We decided to buy Crumbl Cookies and wrote on the box,” said Samantha, explaining how they surprised her daughter.

When Mikayla saw the message inside the box, she was ecstatic.

“She was scared screaming,” Samantha said.

Mikayla said she doesn’t know what Game 4 of the World Series will be like, after all, this is the first time the Phillies have ever walked.

“I don’t really know, it’s my first time going to a World Series game, so I don’t know what to expect really,” Mikayla said.

He had a question for his parents after hearing he was going to the game.

“Am I out of school?” she asked.
