Phillies-Astros World Series Game 3 postponed due to rain – Philly Sports
Major League Baseball along with the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros announced Monday at 6:45 p.m. that Game 3 of the World Series, originally scheduled to start at 8:03 p.m. Monday, has been postponed due to rain in the forecast. Game 3 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 1 with first pitch scheduled for 8:03 p.m.
The predicted weather continued to intensify as Monday’s day progressed in Philadelphia. After the first meeting of the Major League Baseball with the teams and three independent weather experts at 5:00 p.m., the League made the determination to wait for a follow-up meeting at 6:45 p.m. to determine how they should proceed. Just in time for countless fans to pay for parking, enter Citizens Bank Park and purchase food and beverages.
Not even an hour later, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred was at MLB tonight, stating that the predicted rain is “worse than the LCS,” indicating that a postponement was on its way. That announcement finally came after the 6:45 p.m. meeting, ending the adjournment.
Impact on the Phillies moving forward
Seranthony Domínguez will be happy to know that he won’t have to field under the torrential rain in a postseason contest for the second time in four games.
With Game 3 of the World Series now on Tuesday, and Games 4 and 5 following on Wednesday and Thursday, the Phillies have a chance to bring Aaron Nola return to action a match earlier than they otherwise would have. Nola, who was previously lined up to start Game 5 on Wednesday, will now likely pitch Game 4 that same day. We now know Syndergaard will pitch Game 5 on Thursday. That means a well-rested Zack Wheeler will start in Houston if needed.
Rotation change also allows Noah Syndergaard to come out of the bullpen if necessary, giving manager Rob Thomson an extra weapon to deploy for the rest of the series.
The updated Phillies vs Astros World Series schedule
Major League Baseball has reset the schedule for the remainder of the World Series, moving each World Series day back by one:
- Tuesday, November 1: Third game in Philadelphia
- Wednesday November 2: Game four in Philadelphia
- Thursday, November 3: Game five in Philadelphia
- Friday November 4: Day of travel (if required)
- Saturday November 5: Game 6 at Houston (if necessary)
- Sunday November 7: Game 7 at Houston (if necessary)
For all the fans who were lucky enough to buy Phillies tickets, will be valid for the game number you purchased. The third game on Tuesday, the fourth game on Wednesday, the fifth game on Thursday.
At least the Phillies’ bullpen can get home in time to go trick-or-treating. Tomorrow they can play baseball with some sugar from all that candy!
