3 keys to the NY Islanders recent five-game winning streak

The New York Islanders, after starting the season on ice, have now started to heat up and become one of the top teams to watch in the league in the early stages of the 2022-23 season. They started the season 2-4-0, but have since won five games in a row, and none of those wins can be dismissed as a huge testament to the character of this team.

“We’ve got a great group of guys. We’re confident in each other whether it’s the first, second or third period, we’re going to work hard to get results.”

Kyle Palmieri

After dropping three straight games to the New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers i Tampa Bay Lightning, the Isles seemed to be going down the same spiral as last season when they had one of the worst starts to the season imaginable. A few players ended up getting scratched healthy during those games, like now Anthony Beauvillier i Josh Baileythat kept Bailey from playing his 1,000th career NHL game at UBS Arena.

Faced with early adversity and a daunting schedule, there was a sense of urgency filling the room and the team responded by closing out the New York Rangers and then with an impressive 6-2 road win in Carolina against the Hurricanes.

And if those wins didn’t make the room believe, the 3-0 comeback against the defending Stanley Cup champions sure did. The Isles scored five unanswered goals to rally from a three-goal deficit and win in regulation for the first time since 10/23/1984 against Vancouver (6-5).

The schedule lightened up on this current trip to the Midwest, and so far, the Islanders have done what it took to win. Win a lopsided game in Chicago on Tuesday night, then score four goals in the second period to handle a wobble St. Louis Blues team that has lost six in a row.

Let’s take a look at 3 key reasons for the five-game winning streak.
