Ivan Miroshnichenko puts down a monster shot and scores a goal in his third MHL game of the season

Ivan Miroshnichenko was setting the highlight reel on fire again on Friday. The 2022 first-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals played in his third game with MHL team Avangard Omsk after being cleared for post-game action chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma of Hodgkin.

Just fifteen seconds into Friday’s game, the talented Russian striker unleashed an absolutely mammoth strike on Sputnik Almetievsk’s Riyaz Galiyev.

Miroshnichenko cleared Galiyev with his head down after lobbing the puck behind the Omsk net. The force of the contact sent both players off their skates and the Caps’ top prospect was the clear winner.

The 18-year-old winger’s penchant for physical play has always been part of his repertoire. This was clearly shown here. Galiyev got up very slowly, rubbed his face, but didn’t miss a turn with any sort of injury.

Later in the period with his team already up 1-0, Miroshnichenko pounced on a terrible play by the opposing defense and fired home a wicked scorer for his second goal of the season in three games. The strike ended up being the winner in his team’s final 4-1 win.

Miroshnichenko now has three points from three games and is off to a much quicker start than many expected given the way he has been going over the past year. He is expected to stay in the MHL, Russia’s youth league, to start his season before returning to the professional ranks.

The talented winger played just one game in the MHL last season, as most of his healthy ice time was spent in the VHL pros, Russia’s equivalent of the AHL. Had 16 points (10g, 6a) in 31 games in the VHL.
