Yahoo Plays and Strategy for Saturday, November 12
This article is part of ours Yahoo DFS Hockey series
It’s a very busy night of NHL hockey on Saturday. There are 11 games on the board, which I always love to watch. Saturdays are for hockey. Here are some players to target and avoid for your DFS lineups. Let’s do this thing!
Logan Thompson, VGK vs. STL ($41): How good has Thompson been this year? He allowed just four goals for the high-flying Sabers and still has a 2.32 GAA and .925 save percentage. This pairing should be easier. The Blues are currently last in goals per game.
GOALKEEPER TO AVOID
Linus UllmarkBOS to BUF ($36): It should be fun as the Bruins and Sabers are first and second in goals per game. Of course, that means it probably won’t be fun for goalies, and that includes Ullmark. He’s crushed it to start the campaign, but he’s on the road against a Buffalo battalion that has averaged 3.86 goals per contest. If they can drop four on Thompson, they can do it against Ullmark.
Jonathan ToewsCHI and ANA ($18): Toews has been a constant presence. While he doesn’t have multiple point games, he has managed a point in 10 of the 13 contests he’s played in. As such, I’m comfortable expecting a point from Toews in this matchup, and possibly even more than one. The Ducks are last in GAA and have somehow allowed 40.4 shots on net per game.
CENTER TO AVOID
Nazem KadriCGY vs. WPG ($26): Kadri came out of the gates hot for the Flames, but has three points in his last seven games. Now, that’s still good, but definitely a step down from the nine he had in his first six starts. Connor Hellebuyck he hasn’t slowed down at all, and has a 1.98 GAA and .938 save percentage.
Brock BoeserAVAILABLE on TOR ($17): Since returning to the lineup, Boeser has a point in both of his games. While he still has no goals this season, he has never failed to have at least 23 goals in a full NHL campaign. You’ve heard the name Keith Petruzzelli? With the Maple Leafs in the second night of a back-to-back, Petruzzelli could be making his NHL debut, even though he’s apparently the Leafs’ fifth-string goaltender.
Kyle Palmieri, JNI vs. CLM ($17): After a slow start, Palmieri has five points in his last six games. He’s also averaged 2:42 per game with the extra man thrown in for good measure. The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, have a 4.38 GAA and have allowed 35.4 shots on net per game.
WINGS TO AVOID
Vladimir TarasenkoSTL to VGK ($25): Several Blues have started slowly, so they are last in goals per game, but Tarasenko has not been one of them. And yet, even he has just four points in his last nine outings after having six in his first three. As I noted above, Thompson has a 2.32 GAA and .925 save percentage.
Patrick LaineCLM at the JNI ($21): Laine has just one goal and two assists since returning from injury. His 7.4 percent shooting should improve, but this isn’t the game for a change. Ilya Sorokin he has a 2.09 GAA and a .936 save percentage, and the Islanders have a top-five penalty kill for good measure.
Dougie Hamilton, NJD vs. ARI ($20): Hamilton showed some of what he can do last year, his first with the Devils, but this is the defenseman the team dreamed of when they got him. He has accumulated 11 points in 14 games and has made 54 shots on net. The Coyotes have allowed 35.7 shots on goal per game, so expect Hamilton to be pretty busy.
Shea Theodore, VGK vs. STL ($19): Theodore has 11 points in 15 games, including a three-point streak. His 10.7 percent shooting probably regresses, but Theodore is routinely a guy who puts more than 200 shots on net per season. The Blues don’t just have problems in attack. They also have a GAA of 3.83.
DEFENSE TO AVOID
Rasmus Dahlin, BUF vs. FOREST ($26): There are concerns about Ullmark, but Ullmark is also a concern for a player like Dahlin. In addition, Blue has scored eight of his 17 points on the power play, and the Bruins have the best penalty kill in the league. This salary is a bit high given the match.
Devon ToewsCOL vs. EXPENSIVE ($20): Toews has nine points in 10 games, but has averaged just 1:20 per game on the power play. He won’t be ready to take advantage of Carolina’s surprisingly hard-fought death. The Hurricanes are still suppressing shots, but have only allowed 26.2 on net per game. Toews may have nine points, but he only has 19 shots on goal.
