What impressed Jim Montgomery most about Bruins Hot Start

That seemed unthinkable for the Boston Bruins before the regular season started.

They were dealing with a handful of injuries to key players while trying to learn a new coach’s system. The general consensus was to stay afloat before they got stars like Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy back, and then hopefully the Bruins could move on.

But that hasn’t been the case, as the Bruins have exceeded expectations early on en route to owning the NHL’s best record at 14-2-0 after back-to-back wins over the weekend.

There’s been a lot to like about Boston’s historic start, but first-year coach Jim Montgomery revealed Tuesday what has impressed him most about his team’s scorching start.

“I think the variety of ways we’re able to win hockey games,” Montgomery told reporters, by video provided by the team. “I don’t think our structure is great or even where we need to be yet. But I think the collective attitude of the group to enjoy playing for each other. I know I’ve said it a lot, but it’s been amazing for me. You see: (Tomas) Nosek one game, (Nick) Foligno the next. Then it’s (Trent) Frederic or (AJ) Greer or someone who blocks a shot or a goalie who makes a great save at the right time. The way the boys continue to compete with each other is the main result.”

It’s not just about the coaching since Montgomery, as the depth the Bruins have has really starred early on. Boston already has 20 different scorers on the campaign and it seems like during every contest, the Bruins get a big contribution from an unlikely source.

It is the collective mentality that drives them, as Montgomery pointed out and something defender Hampus Lindholm, who has had moments in the spotlight this season, it has also echoed.
