College Football Picks, Schedule: Predictions vs. Spread, Odds for Top 25 Week 12 Games

With just two weeks left in the college football regular season and the Pac-12 looking to make its first College Football Playoff appearance in six years, the conference finds itself in the spotlight. The playoff possibilities diminish with each passing Saturday, and Saturday night will feature two of the biggest games of the Pac-12 season. They will go a long way to decide which teams will compete in the league title game and whether one of them has a chance to make it to the CFP.

The team with playoff aspirations remaining is No. 7 USC facing No. 16 UCLA in a matchup that will take place two years later in another conference, the Big Ten. As the only remaining Pac-12 program with one loss, the Trojans taking down the Bruins is their first step in a legitimate CFP bid. No. 18 Notre Dame awaits next week, and USC will also have to go through the Pac-12 championship game with the “1” remaining in the loss column.

Although the Pac-12’s second matchup has lost some of its luster, and although it kicks off at 10:30 p.m. ET, No. 10 Utah State at No. 17 Oregon State features perhaps the league’s best remaining programs after the aforementioned California schools head to the Big Ten in 2024. It’s sure to be one of the most notable late games this season.

Elsewhere, No. 1 Georgia looks to remain undefeated in its bid to defend its national championship when it travels to Kentucky for an SEC East matchup that also isn’t as intriguing as previously thought. The Wildcats helped Vanderbilt snap a 26-game SEC losing streak last week, and Kentucky fell out of all of the top 25 rankings after playing them for the season.

No. 4 TCU is similarly looking to remain undefeated at Baylor, the preseason Big 12 favorite, while the Bedlam between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will only have rivalry implications due to the diminished stature of both programs this season. Big Ten powers No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan are also in action this weekend, though both programs are multi-touchdown favorites in those contests.

Be sure to follow CBS Sports throughout the day college football lighting from kick off and beyond. Let’s take a look at our experts’ picks for the best games of Week 12.

Bets via Caesars Sportsbook | All times are Eastern

Illinois at No. 3 Michigan

Selected game | Michigan Wolverines vs. Illinois Wrestling Illini

At noon | alphabet, fuboTV (Try it for free) — One of the reasons Michigan has crushed so many of its opponents is because it starts games strong. The Wolverines have been one of the best first half teams in the country, and they often take their foot off the gas pedal in the second half of games. With Ohio State coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see similar results this week. Also, Illinois has proven to be a great team in the second half, especially on defense. So Michigan -9.5 1H should definitely be a game. I also have Michigan to cover the total, but for the sake of it, let’s not think too much. We have two of the best defenses in the country and two possession-based offenses. This is how unders were won thousands of years ago and how they still win today. Forecast: Under 40.5 –Tom Fornelli

#4 PKU by Baylor

Selected game | Baylor Bears vs. TCU Horned Frogs

At noon | fox, fuboTV (Try it for free) — The Bears were picked to win the Big 12 and showed the necessary level of talent to beat even elite teams. However, TCU will not lose this opportunity against a hated rival. The Horned Frogs took just one more game than Baylor to win in Waco, Texas and keep their perfect season alive. Prediction: TCU -2.5 — Shehan Jeyarajah

No. 1 Georgia at Kentucky

Selected game | Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgia Bulldogs

15:30 | cbs, CBSSports.com, The CBS Sports appI’ll take the Bulldogs to not only win, but cover the massive spread. The Wildcats have fallen off a cliff, quarterback Will Lewis has thrown more interceptions (five) than touchdowns (four) over the past four games, and last week’s loss to Vanderbilt should be draining for a team that once had high hopes. The Bulldogs will be keeping their foot on the gas more than they normally do to keep their first team fresh for the stretch. Forecast: Georgia -22.5 — Barrett Sully

no 22 Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

Selected game | Oklahoma Sooners vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

19:30 | alphabet, fuboTV (Try it for free) — Oklahoma is coming off Kansas (with a backup quarterback) and Iowa State, the only team with a worse record in conference play than the Sooners. OU dominated Oklahoma State during the Mike Gundy era, but this is the worst Sooners team in 25 years. There is no reason to doubt them. Prediction: Oklahoma State +7.5 — Shehan Jeyarajah

#7 USC at #16 UCLA

Selected game | UCLA Bruins vs. USC Trojans

8 pm | fox, fuboTV (Try it for free) — USC has looked great against bad teams over the past month, but I’m not sure there’s as much of a difference between these two teams as the rankings suggest. The Trojans also have some potential injury issues beyond the absence of running back Travis Dye, and while UCLA’s loss to Arizona is a concern, I really think it was also the kind of loss we see at potential running backs late in the year. . I think the Bruins made a big comeback and stole the win. Prediction: UCLA +2.5 — Chip Patterson

No. 10 Utah at No. 17 Oregon

Selected game | Oregon Ducks vs. Utah Utes

22:30 | ESPN, fuboTV (Try it for free) — Utah dominated Oregon in two meetings last season, and it’s not yet clear if the gap has narrowed. With first-year Ducks coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham quarterback Beau Nix playing at an elite level, the Utahns will be the most physical team Oregon has faced since its Week 1 loss to Georgia. Knicks’ status is also uncertain after he was injured in the fourth quarter of last week’s loss to Washington. The loss eliminated Oregon from the playoff conversation, and it will be interesting to see if the Ducks remain highly motivated to play for the Pac-12 title. Prediction: Utah -2 — David Cobb
