Doncic hits 50th triple-double, Mavs, Nuggets, best

DALLAS (AP) — Luka Doncic pressured Jason Kidd to stay in the game early in the fourth quarter with Dallas well on its way to a blowout in the first of back-to-back meetings with elusive Denver.

Neither the Mavericks superstar nor his coach knew Doncic needed a rebound to reach 50 career triple-doubles a game faster than Magic Johnson. Kidd obliged for other reasons.

After reaching the milestone in a 127-99 win over the Nuggets on Friday night, a member of Dallas’ public relations staff told Doncic what he had done.

“I told him it was great,” said the normally understated Doncic, who never had to pay much attention to those numbers in the first place.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone is hoping for just a little help against the three-time All-Star in Sunday night’s rematch.

The Nuggets were without two-time MVP Nikola Jokic and two other starters in Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon.

Murray joined Jokic, who missed a second straight game, in health and safety protocols. Gordon was out for a second game with a non-COVID-19 illness.
