Former BYU Wideout Talks NFL Progression

SALT LAKE CITY – Ex BYU Cougars and current Commanders of Washington wide receiver and spec Dax Milne joined to Yards After College Podcast to discuss its development in NFL.

Yes Week 11 of the 2022 NFL season, joined by the former Bingham High standout Kyle Ireland and Sam Farnsworth for a brief discussion of Milne’s time in the league.

During the conversation, Milne, now in his second pro season, talked about his progress in the NFL.

“I would say the biggest improvement for me has been recognizing the defenses,” the former BYU star said on the Yard After College podcast. “Especially in running. That’s basically been the role I’ve taken on, to be a good blocker for this team and then take advantage of any opportunity I have in the passing game. But as far as running goes, it’s been a great learning process, you know who’s who defensively and knowing the proper technique.”

Milne also discussed when he knew he could play in his league first landing receptionmindset changes between the receiving and returning game and BYU football’s reputation in the NFL.

Dax Milne at BYU and in the NFL

Before coming to BYU, Milne was a standout player for the Bingham Miners. Milne is rated as a two-star prospect by 247Sports. He committed to the Cougars as a walk-on over interest from Air Force, Army, Boise State, Utah State and Weber State.

During Milne’s freshman year in Provo, he had 10 catches for 69 yards and one touchdown. His production doubled in his second season. As a sophomore, Milne had 21 receptions for 285 yards and two touchdowns. As a junior in 2020, Milne had a great season. He led the Cougars with 70 catches for 1,188 yards and eight touchdowns. Milne helped BYU to an 11-1 record in his final season with the Cougars.

After a college career, Milne was selected 258th overall by Washington during the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In 10 games this season, Milne has six catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 26 punts for 211 yards and 12 kickoffs for 246 yards.

In two seasons in the NFL, Commander played in 23 games and recorded 15 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown.
