Horvat to Capitals Trade Rumors, Penguins Go Red Carpet

WINNIPEG, Manitoba It was fun, even through the chaos of the “seat of your pants” practice. The kids lined the runway like an Oscars red carpet. The boys couldn’t help but get excited, and practice reflected that. We have full coverage in the Journal. And the Montreal Canadiens are being highly sought after, not by walking scouts, but by executives, which usually means real NHL trade talk.

I want to tell you how much this concert and your trust mean to me. Since there were no scheduled flights, I drove through the night of St. Paul to Winnipeg through snow, wind, cold and gas station sausage muffins. It was the same landscape for eight hours; a perfectly straight road with no scenic scenery, just flat land and snow as far as I could see. I usually enjoy an impossible challenge. This was no different as I arrived in Winnipeg just minutes before the Penguins 1pm practice.

TSN: Hi Jacob Chychrun. Hello, NHL trade talk, rumors, and requests.

I’d make a deal to work out Erik Karlsson before overpaying for Chychrun, but that’s not why I manage an NHL team.

JNI Hockey Now: They’re winning but patching up on Long Island (though it’s closer to Queens now, I think?). Josh Bailey is getting nachos in the press box and the coach shortens his bench in the second period. There are problems with it New York Islanders lineup.

TSN: Someone, anyone, can win Devils of New Jersey?!

So we approached him, explained the financial constraints of the small market with his expected compensation levels…and never heard from him again.
