MLB Rumors: Dodgers May Target Aaron Judge; Yankees make Isaiah Kiner-Falef, Gleyber Torres available

The Major League Baseball offseason is upon us, and with it comes a daily pile of rumors, news and notes. Below you can find all the most notable things that will pop up on Friday.

Smart people reasoning judge

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a surprise decision on Friday regarding the outfielder and former NL MVP Cody Bellinger. While it’s still possible that Bellinger will return to Los Angeles, the non-tender has increased speculation that the Dodgers will look to add another star to the roster this offseason. It could be a star Aaron Judge:

With the Yankees last season, Judge set the AL single-season record with 62 home runs, and that, along with his other staggering numbers, made him the 2022 AL MVP. The Yankees are expected to bid heavily to keep him in the lineup , but the Dodgers have comparable resources and an even stronger recent commitment to winning. Thought to add Judge to a lineup that already includes Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Will Smithamong other things, is no doubt tempting for Dodgers fans.

Metz to meet with Seng

Kodai Senga, one of the the most intriguing free agent starting roles available this offseasonrecently met with the New York Mets, according to The Athletic.

Sengo, a true free agent (meaning he won’t be subject to the placement system like most NPB players), was rated the 23rd best free agent by CBS Sports. Here’s what we wrote at the time:

Sengo, 29, is expected to sign a major league contract this winter after spending the first 11 seasons of his career with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League. He is a skilled right-hander who has posted a 1.89 ERA and 3.18 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season in 148 innings. Senga’s best pitches are his lively mid-90s fastball and his devastating “ghost” forkball, a true out pitch in the majors or anywhere else. He is able to step on the stairs with this combination, turning up the heat before burying the fork. (If he lands in Chicago, maybe his nickname should be Bear?) He also throws a decent curveball.

Senga’s agent, Joel Wolfe, previously said he would like to represent a big-market contender. Obviously, the Mets would fit those preferences.

Yankees on the shopping block

Yankees middle infielders Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres both can be in trading block, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Kinner-Falefa, purchased from the same trade as brought Josh Donaldson earlier this year, had a disappointing first season with the Yankees. He struggled offensively, and the defensive stats for the public were divided by his glove play. Keener-Falef has one year remaining before he is eligible for free agency.

Torres, meanwhile, failed to build on his early career success that saw him make back-to-back All-Star teams in his first two seasons. He’s putting up his best effort of the pandemic era (114 OPS+), but the Yankees clearly aren’t set on moving him anyway. He has two seasons left in free agency.

It should be noted that the Yankees have one of the top infield prospects in the minors, in Anthony Volpe. CBS Sports recently ranked him 13th overall.
