Duke visited Pitt yesterday to try to win #8, and while Pitt is favored, Duke is one spot ahead of the Panthers, the number three team in the Coastal Division, and behind only UNC.

On the other hand, Pitt hasn’t lost since October and just defeated Virginia last time out, 37-7. Even more impressive is that the Panthers gave Tennessee a tough game in a 34-27 loss against the #5 Vols.

But Duke has played very, very well this year, and of the three losses, two (UNC and Georgia Tech) have come at the very end of the game.

Both teams are going to use the ground game often, and Pitt has junior running back Israel Obanikanda to turn to.

Duke has had issues with the pass defense, which might not matter as much here as it did against, say, UNC’s Drake Mayo, so the running game might not be the worst.

It will be a tough game – Pitt is tough and physical and they have a good attacking line. It will not be easy to slow them down.

But if they can get a road win here, Duke will have an eight-win season and a possible 10-win season.

Who would have thought that we could be talking about this this year? No matter what happens at Pitt or next weekend against Wake Forest, it’s been an enjoyable season.
