TV program of student football for the 12th week

Three of the four teams currently seeded in the College Football Playoff — Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan — are heavy favorites heading into Saturday, so the chances of major swings in the penultimate weekend of college football are slim. There’s always TCU that gives up just a few points against Baylor, but that’s okay for the Horned Frogs: They haven’t hit double figures since the Sept. 10 game against Tarleton State, and they seem to be living a charmed existence. So keep your expectations in check.

Illinois once held the top spot in the Big Ten West, but lost back-to-back games to Michigan State and Purdue, taking the shine off Saturday’s game between the Illini and Michigan. Illinois sits among four teams atop the division standings at 4-3 in conference play, and may need an upset of the Wolverines for the Illini to have a chance at the Big Ten title game (Purdue, also 4-3, has very winnable games vs. Northwestern and Indiana). It will be a tall order for Illinois, whose once-proud defense was exhausted last week by Purdue and surrendered a season-high 379 yards, just the second time the Illini have given up more than 294 this season. The Wolverines enter with playoff hopes and running back Blake Korum, who has rushed for more than 100 yards in seven straight games. Illinois State’s Chase Brown has the national rushing yards with 1,442 yards, but he left the Purdue game late with what appeared to be a leg injury. Coach Bret Bielema said this week that Brown has “The trend is in the right direction”, but Michigan is giving up just 2.6 yards per rush, which ranks third in the nation. …

With two late playoff contenders – Georgia and Ohio State – both heavy favorites over Kentucky and Maryland, respectively, let’s leave it at the painfully exciting Big Ten West Iowa-Minnesota. The Hokies’ terrible, bad, very bad offense hit rock bottom last Saturday against Wisconsin, gaining just 2.1 yards per game and 146 total yards (both season lows). And it was a game they won by two touchdowns, thanks mainly to quarterback Cooper DeJean, who had a pick-six and set up another score with a 41-yard punt return. The Hawkeyes beat the Gophers — and in doing so, lifted Rosedale’s Floyd, athletic the biggest pig themed trophy — seven straight, with two of those wins eliminating coach PJ Fleck and Minnesota from a spot in the Big Ten title game. …

Best College Football Bets: For UCLA (California Cal State Cal UK UK UK is the game).

The stars seemed to align for the Pac-12 to end the College Football Playoff drought that began in 2017. Alabama lost twice for some reason. Notre Dame blew the doors off Clemson, and it hasn’t looked great in other games. TCU seems to be dancing away from disaster every minute. So three Pac-12 teams entered last weekend with just one loss each and varying degrees of CFP hope, and all three were favored to win. However, only one of them did so, with Oregon and UCLA losing. That leaves Southern California with its only realistic shot at the playoffs. and the Trojans can take a step toward that by defeating rival UCLA. The last three games in this series have been 87, 81, and 95 points, and both teams’ defenses haven’t been great this year, so expect more of the same Saturday night. … The Utah-Oregon winner will be in great shape to play in the Pac-12 title game, and the Ducks might be a little salty after not only slamming the door on Utah on their CFP hopes last season but beat them again in the Pac-12 championship game, with the two wins coming by a combined score of 76-17.
