Cam Reddish gets hurt trying to defend Stephen Curry

PHOENIX – Cam Reddish was unsure of his immediate game status after leaving during the third quarter of the game. The Knicks’ loss to the Warriors Friday night with groin soreness and was subsequently listed as questionable to play Sunday.

Reddish, whose eight-game starting streak could end Sunday against the Suns if he can’t go, believes Stephen Curry’s defense contributed to his injury, which he first felt early in the game and that ” bit by bit” worsened before his third-quarter ejection. .

“It was fun. It was competing against the best ever, to be honest,” Reddish said after the game. “It was fun. Tough, too. It moves all the time. That’s probably why my groin hurts. But I enjoy the competition.”

If Reddish is unable to face the Suns, Quentin Grimes could be in line to return to the starting lineup. The second-year point guard has played sparingly this season due to a foot injury he suffered early in training camp, logging just 43 minutes in six appearances.

Grimes did not see action Friday until the final two minutes of the game. Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau went with an eight-man rotation after Reddish left. Displaced starter Evan Fournier also sat for a third straight game on the road trip.

“Yeah, I liked the rotation we had,” Thibodeau said. “I was going to put [Grimes] when Cam wasn’t [able to go back in]but this was the group inside that narrowed it down to eight [points]. So I wanted to see where it was going.

“But [Grimes] he is moving very well in practice. Hopefully he’s ready to go [Sunday]. I think it will be.”

Reddish, who scored 11 points in 25 minutes, said he suffered a torn groin while at Duke in 2019. That injury required surgery, but he said this one doesn’t feel that serious.

“I couldn’t walk when I broke it, but I’m fine now,” Reddish said.

Obi Toppin uncharacteristically missed two dunks against the Warriors. He shot 0-5 from the field and scored a point in 19 minutes.

“Obi is a great finisher. You don’t miss many,” Thibodeau said. “It was one of those nights.”

Chris Paul (heel), Cam Johnson (knee) and Landry Shamet (concussion protocols) will miss the Suns game.
