Fundidores de Monterrey re-signs reigning MVP QB Shelton Eppler

The Founders of Monterrey with Mexican Professional American Football League signed a contract with the defender again Shelton Epler for the 2023 season.

6’1″, 205 lbs from Navasota, Texas returns for its second season in the Mexico with the goal of bringing another championship Monterey. Last season, Founders won Mexico City Bowl V, beating Black roosters of Keretar for their first championship in franchise history. Now they strive to be the first MAF team to win back-to-back titles since then My CDMX did it in 2016 and 2017.

The 25-year-old defenseman had a great season in 2022. He led the league in passing with 1,677 yards and 15 touchdowns en route to being named the league’s Most Valuable Player. It was the first time a non-Mexican player won the award.

Before arriving at Mexicobegan his professional career in 2021 Demarcation playing for Aalborg 89, directing them to Danish semifinal in his first season in international football after throwing for 1,723 yards and 17 touchdowns in the regular season.

Eppler played college football at Northwestern State (NCAA Div. 1) after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College. In his junior and senior seasons at Northwestern State, he threw for 6,226 yards and 54 touchdowns, breaking numerous single-game and single-season records in the process. In the first and second courses of Trinity Valley Community College, in 14 games, he threw for 2,656 yards and 28 touchdowns, winning Heart of Texas Bowl in the second year.
