Green Bay Packers at Philadelphia Eagles

As the losses pile up on the Packers, who have dropped six of their last seven, it’s getting harder and harder to believe quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his upbeat talk.

Seemingly on the brink of a comeback after beating the Cowboys, Green Bay fell at home as a 3.5-point favorite in a 27-17 loss to the Titans. Rodgers was a big part of the problem, making inaccurate throws and questionable decisions. The running attack was ineffective, in part because the Packers fell behind early, but the playmaking offense was once again too much about the pass and not enough about the run (39 pass attempts, 19 rush attempts). Rodgers has taken turns throwing coaches and teammates under the bus after disappointing losses the past two seasons, but he’s not playing anywhere near the elite level the team needs.

The slump that has hit the Eagles could turn out to be a good thing in the long run. After an 8-0 start with a loss to Washington, Philadelphia (9-1) bounced back with a 17-16 win at Indianapolis. Jalen Hurts passed for 190 yards, rushed for 86 and scored two touchdowns, but overall it was a shaky performance from the offense, and the Eagles were fortunate to win.

At the very least, the last two games have been a wake-up call for Philadelphia. It could also be true that the Eagles were over-inflated when beating weak opponents and were overvalued in the betting market. Philadelphia’s defense did its job, limiting the Colts to 284 total yards and giving Hurts a chance to mount a fourth-quarter comeback.

Green Bay (4-7) is on the ropes and ready to be knocked out of the playoff picture. Will the packers pack it or pack it? Rodgers’ decline in play does not give hope for a rally. While it’s always tempting to think of Rodgers as a significant underdog — and he did in a similar spot against Dallas — this isn’t the best version of Rodgers. As a 7-point favorite, Philadelphia is probably a good teaser.
