Ranking the six Houston Astros fans should be most thankful for

Yordan Alvarez

Just like the lineup, Yordan Alvarez is just ahead of Alex Bregman on this list. No other team in the game has a left-handed hitter who can hit for average and has the level of plate discipline that Álvarez brings to the lineup.

The Titan hits mammoth home run after mammoth home run, playing in a ballpark that feels built especially for him.

Jordan showed a combination of enough improvement and continued health to warrant 56 starts in Left Field this season and is trending toward playing there full-time in 2023. A hitter who gets better every time and a fielder who keeps getting better, there’s no end in sight in sight upward trajectory

Speaking of no end in sight…

Alvarez hit the biggest two home runs of the Astros’ World Series push this October. With the Seattle series so close, who knows what would have happened if Houston had lost Game 1 and lost home field advantage?

His titanic shot in Game 6 was the deciding blow of the series. If he hadn’t gone deep, the series very likely would have tilted in Philadelphia’s favor with Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel and Jose Altuve suffering injuries in Games 5 and 6.

Without Yordan and his timely heroics, Houston may not have hoisted the Commissioner’s Trophy this year. It has been locked until 2028 in a team friendly agreement and we’re lucky to have him in an Astros uniform.
