Avalanche vs. Predators postponed Friday in Nashville, NHL announces
The Avalanche traveled to Tennessee for Thanksgiving dinner, and that’s about it.
Colorado’s game against the Predators, scheduled for noon MT on Friday, has been postponed due to a water main break at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, the NHL announced Friday morning.
A makeup date has not yet been determined, according to a league statement.
The Avs (11-6-1) skated at their practice facility in Centennial, Colo., then flew to Nashville on Thursday afternoon. They were ready to head home after the game to host the Dallas Stars on Saturday in a back-to-back.
The water main break “significantly affected the level of the arena’s event,” according to the league’s statement. The status of Nashville’s Saturday home game against Columbus is up in the air.
Colorado defeated Nashville 5-3 at home in the first time the division foes met this season. The next scheduled game is December 17 at the Ball Arena. Colorado will travel to Nashville again for a game scheduled on December 23rd.
“We have (Thanksgiving) dinner planned at the hotel for the staff, and then the players have that, too,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Thursday before the team left. Bednar is Canadian, but lives in South Carolina during the off-season and celebrates American Thanksgiving.
“I cook my turkeys in the South, but I don’t have a fryer here,” he said. It’s unclear whether Thanksgiving 2022 went south or didn’t include a fried turkey.
Evan Rodrigues injury update
Avalanche forward Evan Rodrigues (lower body) did not make the short trip to Nashville. He saw a doctor on Thursday. Bednar does not yet know the timeline of Rodrigues’ injury, but the team is optimistic that the injury may not be as serious as it initially appeared.
“Lower body fit,” Bednar said. “We’re hoping for the best. … We’re waiting to hear from the doctor, but he’s feeling good.”
Rodrigues went down on the ice Wednesday night after his skate caught on the skate of Vancouver’s JT Miller. The second-line center skated cautiously and immediately went to the locker room. He did not return to the bench.
Rodrigues signed with Colorado on a one-year deal this offseason, leaving Pittsburgh in free agency.
