The Football team UKN lost 34-17 on the road against Army in the regular-season finale last weekend, falling to 6-6 in a season that saw a transformation of the program under Jim More.

With its sixth straight win over Liberty the week before, UConn became bowl eligible for the first time since 2015 and was hoping to improve its bowl resume with a win to close out the season.

That didn’t happen.

And as an independent team, UConn is the easiest to enter a bowl game with an at-large bid, as most of the 82 slots in the 41 bowl games have conference contracts.

Will UKB be selected?

That remains to be seen. The players went home for Thanksgiving this week, likely with the question of the bowl hanging over their heads. That will remain in question as they return to training next week.

While we wait, here’s a breakdown of UConn’s possible landing spots based on projections from national reporters and sites.

PREDICTIONS:

•On Tuesday, collegefootballnews.com On Friday, Dec. 16, UConn will play Appalachian State in the Duluth Trading Cure Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

That would put the freshman at quarterback Zion Turner in his home state. Appalachian State is 6-5 and will finish its regular season at Georgia Southern on Saturday.

The Athletic agrees, also putting UConn in the Cure Bowl. But they have the Huskies facing UNLV.

• Brett McMurphy at actionnetwork.com predicts that UConn will be at Syracuse (again) in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa on Friday, December 23rd. Finished 48-14 in September at Rentschler Field.

The Orange started the season 6-0 and ranked in the top 25, but they have lost five in a row and end the regular season Saturday at Boston College.

McMurphy also writes that the 73 teams eligible for the tournament will go into the final weekend, with 17 teams needing one win to qualify. Four of those teams play each other, bringing the cup-eligible team list to 75 with 13 teams in contention for a sixth win — but only four are favorites this week.

So there may not be enough six-win teams, which bodes well for UKB.

• Before UConn’s loss to Army, Sports Illustrated predicted that the Huskies will play ECU in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, December 22. After defeat SI put End in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Dec. 19 against Toledo.

Jerry Palm of CBS has UConn vs. Georgia Southern in the LendingTree Bowl on Dec. 17 in Mobile, Alabama.

• Website 247 Sports UConn slots into the Quick Lane Bowl against Bowling Green on Dec. 26 in Detroit.

• Finally, ESPN has a forecast of two journalists. Mark Schlabach has the Huskies in the Dec. 17 New Mexico Bowl against San Diego State and Kyle Bonagura with Palm and UConn in the LendingTree Bowl, but against Southern Miss.

Who will be right? Mora and his players will be eagerly awaiting official news in the coming weeks.
