Oklahoma WR Theo Wiese enters the college football portal
Oklahoma wide receiver Theo Wiese has announced his intention to enter college football this offseason.
Wiese appeared in 13 of 14 games for the Sooners as a freshman before sitting out every game during the 2020 season due to Covid-19.
Apparently looking forward to an important 2021 season, Wiese missed almost the entire year with an injury, returned in 2022 and played a major role.
Wise was rated a five-star prospect by Rivals during his high school football career in Allen (Texas), where he was ranked as a top-25 recruit by most services. ESPN and 247Sports rated him as a four-star player and among the top five players in the country at his position.
“Thank you Sooner Nation for all the unconditional love and support during my time here,” Wiese said in a post on Twitter.
“I also want to say I appreciate the coaches for everything they did for me last season and what they are building in Norman is going to be special.”
The NCAA Transfer Portal is a private database that contains the names of student-athletes in every sport at Levels I, II and III. The full list of names is not available to the public.
A player can enter his name on the transfer portal through his school’s compliance office. Once a player gives written notice of his intention to transfer, the office enters the player’s name into the database and he officially becomes a transfer.
The compliance department has 48 hours to comply with a player’s request, and NCAA rules prohibit anyone from denying that request.
The database contains the player’s name, contact information, information on whether the player was on scholarship and is a graduate student.
Once a player’s name appears in the transfer portal database, other schools can contact the player, who can change his mind at any point in the process and opt out of the transfer portal.
It is noteworthy that as soon as the player enters the portal, his school is no longer obliged to receive the sports scholarship that it has allocated to him. And if that player decides to leave the portal and return to his original school, the school must not give him another scholarship.
