After DNP, Jets RB James Robinson ‘angrily’ wonders how he’s coping

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — New York Jets running back James RobinsonAfter arriving on a trade last month that looked to be a key piece in the attack, he was a healthy scratch last Sunday – and he’s upset.

“Obviously, I didn’t come here not to play,” Robinson told ESPN on Wednesday. “Obviously, I was brought here for a reason. I don’t expect anything unless I work for it, and I’ve been working my ass off. Playing makes me angry.”

Looking for more production, head coach Robert Saleh replaced Robinson with the rookie Knight of Zonovain his debut he scored 103 yards from scrimmage — a 31-10 win. Chicago Bears.

Robinson said he was informed by running backs coach Taylor Embree last Wednesday that he would be active against the Bears.

“Obviously, I was upset,” he said. “I don’t know what they have planned for me.”

On October 24, the Jets acquired Robinson Jacksonville Jaguars For a conditional sixth-round pick in 2023 – one day after losing the starter Breece Hall to a season-ending knee injury. Through three games, Robinson has managed just 75 yards on 25 carries. He scored a touchdown on one of his two receptions.

As part of the trade deal, the draft improves to the fifth round if Robinson reaches 600 yards by 2022. Today, it is 415 meters away.

Robinson played his best game in the Week 9 win over the Jets Buffalo Bills (13 carries for 48 yards and a receiving touchdown). The offense hit rock bottom in the next game, losing New England Patriots. He was held to 10 yards on seven carries.

Explaining the change, Saleh said there has been “a lot of meat on the bones” in the running game in recent weeks. He said Robinson is still comfortable in their zone-based scheme and wanted to give Knight a chance in the rotation, adding that “no one has seen the last” of Robinson.

Robinson doesn’t think he has any issues with the new system, which calls for a one-cut runner who can accelerate quickly up the field.

“I mean, scoring runs, it’s easy,” said Robinson, a 1,070-yard rusher for Jacksonville in 2020. “He’s getting used to the passing game thing, the protections and I feel like I’ve picked up on that stuff pretty well.

“You’ll probably have to ask them what their game plan is for me. I’d do the same thing, but obviously I’m going to keep working my ass. I can’t go in there begging. They see what I’ve got to do on the pitch.”

Robinson, who said he was unsure of his status this week, could be inactive again against Sunday Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium. It may depend Michael Carterhe missed practice on wednesday with a sprained ankle.

Saleh said he expects Carter to play. In that case, they could go with the same three from last week — Carter, Knight and You JohnsonHe had 62 yards and a touchdown against Chicago.

“With the whole racing room, it’s going to be a week-to-week thing,” Saleh said.
