Giants-Commanders latest injury report: 9 Giants listed as questionable
The New York Giants issued the injury report on Friday, with nine players questionable and three players out. One name nowhere to be found on the list is right fielder Evan Neal, who is fine and expected to start Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
Neal has not played since suffering a Week 7 MCL tear Jacksonville Jaguars.
As expected, three Giants are out: offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu (neck), cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (knee), offensive lineman Shane Lemieux (toe).
Nine players are questionable. All but one of those players — wide receiver Darius Slayton — was a limited practice participant Friday. Slayton missed his second straight practice due to illness.
“Darius is still under the weather. He was in meetings,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “But (I’m) hopeful (he will play on Sunday). The trend is going in the right direction, but still a bit under the weather.”
It looks like every questionable player will fit into a critical NFC East matchup with playoff implications on Sunday.
“We’ll see where they are. We’ll talk to those guys after practice. We’re going to sit down as coaches — the staff — and make the best decision we can,” Daboll said. “Obviously, if they’re ready to go, we’d love to have them there.”
One of those questionable players, tight end Daniel Bellinger, has been trending toward a comeback after suffering a broken eye socket in Week 7.
Three players on injured reserve — cornerback Azeez Ojulari, safety Tony Jefferson and linebacker Ben Bredeson — have been practicing this week. The Giants have two open roster spots, and have until 4:00 pm on Saturday to activate players off IR. Ojulari and Jefferson seem ready to go, with Bredeson perhaps less certain.
Before Friday’s practice, Daboll still wasn’t ready who would be the center and left guard. The likely combination, though, looks to be Jon Feliciano at center and Nick Gates at left guard.
“I think we would be open to whatever we think is best,” Daboll said. “I think Jon does a good job making all the calls. He knows the system very well. So we’ll see what we got on Friday. We’ve worked on some pieces here, I would say, over the last few days and moved guys around like we normally do. The best five will be there.”
Commander Benjamin St. Juste (ankle) and Trai Turner (ankle/knee) will be without their starting linebackers. Edge cornerback Chase Young, who would make his season debut if he plays 2021 with a torn ACL, is questionable.
