Jimmy Garoppolo says the Dolphins were in the mix to trade him
If the 49ers quarterback Jim Garoppolo Had he not needed offseason shoulder surgery, he likely would have been traded. And one of the potential destinations was apparently the Miami Dolphins.
“They were in conversation,” Garoppolo told reporters Thursday on the Dolphins. “Not much came of it, but they were definitely one of the teams in the conversation. It looked like a good place. Offensively, they’re incredibly skilled players, putting everything they’ve got through there. Mike[McDaniel]being a great coach, I’ve been here with him in the past and it was discussed, but I’m glad things worked out.”
It’s unclear whether Garoppolo would go to Miami as a starter, a backup or as part of an open competition. McDaniel made a FaceTime call to him Tua Tagovailoa when getting the job, creating a clear impression that Tua was a boy.
Given what the 49ers wanted for Garoppolo, it’s hard to imagine the Dolphins making that investment in a backup.
However, Garoppolo said what he said. At least the dolphins were “conversing”. With the Dolphins coming to Santa Clara on Sunday for a game against the 49ers, it’s an interesting addition to the overall conversation.
