SATISFACTION

Coaching changes are a part of college football, and with the early signing period a major part of the recruiting class, athletic directors are starting to do their part to make sure their programs don’t miss a beat despite change of leadership. These are important reasons why the 2022-2023 coaching carousel has started quickly.

The last waves were made in Boulder, Coloradofrom where the Buffaloes hired Deion Sanders Jackson State after he fired Carl Dorrell during the season. Sanders spent two seasons building Jackson State into an FCS state before moving on to the Power Five.

Auburn made a big splash on Nov. 28 when it announced Freedom Hugh Freeze will return to the SEC to take over for the Tigers. Wisconsin made big news when it let Paul Christ go, and made an even bigger splash when it hired Cincinnati Luke Fickell as his replacement. Freeze was 39-25 (including shutouts) in five seasons in the Be Miss. Nebraska made a big splash on November 26 when he tapped the former Baylor and Temple head coach Matt Rule will take over for Scott Frost. The steering wheel organized impressive turns with bears and owls, and will be assigned the same task in Lincoln. Stanford coach David Shaw resigned after 12 seasons, becoming the winningest coach in program history. Brian Harsin was finally released Chestnut with four games remaining in Year 2, just after the athletic department underwent a leadership change.

The group of five has also seen a significant turnover of coaches, with Liberty Jamie Chadwell and FAU Tom Herman is among the latest hires.

Here’s an overview of the updated coaching changes and grades for each job that was filled.
