Xander Bogaerts reports from the pundits will excite Red Sox fans

As reports on interest from the entire league he Xander Bogaerts rose, so did the fear among Red Sox fans that the star shortstop might leave the only Major League Baseball organization he has ever known.

But reports from several MLB pundits on Wednesday indicated that Boston is still very much in the running to win the Bogaerts sweepstakes. In fact, the four-time All-Star staying with the franchise that signed him in 2009 might be the most likely outcome.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post raised hopes of a deal between Bogaerts and the Reds when he tweeted that the sides are in “intense discussions”. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi sang a similar tune when he stated his belief that Boston finally will find a deal to keep the 30-year-old in the uniform he has worn since 2013.

It should be noted that the Red Sox will likely have to fend off strong competition if they want to retain Bogaerts. The San Diego Padres supposedly “pivot” to the native of Aruba after Trea Turner signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants might focus on Bogaerts after seeing Aaron Judge back up with the New York Yankees. Under the Radar Contenders, like the Arizona Diamondbackshe could also give Boston a run for its money in the effort to sign Bogaerts.

That said, the Red Sox front office has insisted desire to keep Bogaerts for a while, and it looks like the group is taking real steps to try and make it happen.
