College Football Transfer Portal: Live transfer tracker to watch

There are meetings that will determine the future of many LSU players. Coach Brian Kelly and some assistant coaches, who held off on immediate recruiting after Saturday’s SEC title game, are meeting with draft-eligible players and transfer candidates to figure out the best options.

This is just the start of some of the wildest weeks in transfer history. The transfer portal window opened on Monday, giving players 45 days to enter before it closes.

LSU may attack this year with a more selective approach after it loaded 15 transfers last year to fill a depleted roster. It might take fewer players and patiently searching for those who best fit LSU’s requirements on and off the field. LSU’s roster is more stable, so it won’t be taking on role players. He will look for players who clearly improve in the right positions and will not force anything. Kelly said LSU wants to “top off the tank.”

As for the players LSU could lose to Portal, as of Monday, only linebackers Philip Webb and Antoine Sampa, who left the team this summer, were included. There will be a handful of LSU players coming in, which has become a normal roster drop.

Still, to understand how LSU will handle this cycle, Kelly’s approach from a year ago is still instructive.
