FIFA World Cup 2022 Highlights: Morocco beat Portugal 1-0 to make history
The World Cup 2022 continues Saturday on FOX p Morocco taking off Portugal1-0 at Qatar’s Al-Thumama Stadium in the penultimate quarter-final match of the tournament. Morocco became the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Portugal superstar and team captain Cristiano Ronaldo was benched from the start for the team’s second straight game. He came on in the second half after Portugal fell behind, but it wasn’t enough to provide the spark Portugal needed to pull off a come-from-behind win.
The two teams’ record at the World Cup is now 2-1, with Morocco winning in 1986 and 2022.
Another place in the semi-finals is up for grabs on Saturday England takes over France next (2:00 PM ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app). The winner will play Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Youssef En-Nesiri was it’s close to get Morocco on the board early, but his header was a little too high.
He tried another header in the 26th minute, but it went wide to the right and it was still nil.

Portugal Joao Felix made a great move from outside the box around the half hour mark but was blocked.
A few moments later, the defender of Portugal Rafael Guerreiro tried to punch the ball, but Gonzalo Ramos was caught offside.

Finally, En-Nessiri was able to connect with a header to give Morocco a 1-0 lead before the break.

Portugal star Ronaldo was benched for the second successive match for Portugal after being replaced in the starting line-up for Tuesday’s match against Switzerland 21-year-old Ramos – who scored a hat-trick in Portugal’s stunning 6-1 win – before eventually replacing Ramos in the 73rd minute.
It was the first time the 37-year-old forward had not started a World Cup match since 2006. Shortly afterwards, there were reports that Ronaldo told manager Fernando Santos that he would retire from the game after learning he would not be playing for the national team – report The Portuguese Football Federation has since denied the claim.
