NFL fines Patriots QB Mac Jones for unsportsmanlike conduct

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones will have a little less money for holiday shopping this year.

The NFL tapped the second-year signal caller $10,609 fine The league office was charged with unsportsmanlike conduct late in New England’s home loss to the Buffalo Bills last Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

With less than three minutes left in the contest, Bills defensive lineman AJ Epenesa forced Jones downfield for a sack. Clearly frustrated after the play, Jones flipped the ball over the middle to Epenesa, which the NFL thought was enough of an offense to put Jones in the sack. The referees did not throw a flag in the game, and you can watch it all unfold here.

Jones’ fine is more than double what Bills’ Damar Hamlin received for the unnecessary roughness that caused Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to be concussed and ejected from the game. Hamlin docked $4,806 in NFL fines for concussions that resulted in injuries, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Meyers is still feeling the effects of that blow it was already rejectedalong with two other Patriots starters, because Monday’s road game against the Arizona Cardinals.
