Lions news: CJ Moore asked his agent to return to Detroit

CJ Moore has had a tumultuous 2022 season. It started in training Detroit Lions‘ list of non-football injuries. His return to the practice field was short-lived as he was waived/injured a few weeks later. After agreeing to an injury settlement with the Lions, he was released from the team, and his three-year tenure with the team seemed to come to an unceremonious end.

But Moore, who was a special teamer with the Lions, wasn’t going to let it end that way. Although he originally signed it Houston Texans practice squad, when his injury settlement expired (along with the two additional weeks required by NFL rules), Moore asked his management team to return to Detroit.

“Everybody was like, ‘Man, you’ve got opportunities to go somewhere else,’ and I did,” Moore said after Sunday’s game. Based on a fantastic story by Will Burchfield. “I was literally telling my agent, ‘I want to go back to Detroit,’ because I know the kind of trust we have in this locker room.”

The Lions clearly wanted him back as well, as Detroit moved him from their practice squad to the 53-man roster a week after Moore signed with the Texans. That move paid off handsomely Sunday when Moore converted a first down on a fake punt with a spectacular 41-yard run:

Moore, who had lived through lean times in Detroit, sensed something special about this team, this regime, and he wanted to make sure he was a part of it.

“Coach Dan (Campbell) and (general manager) Brad (Holmes), they’re building something special and it’s something I want to be a part of,” Moore said. “That’s really why I came back. You could feel it last year. We finished the season well and this season didn’t start very well, but we know he’s been here and it’s showing.”
