Former Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman in hospital to battle rare form of cancer

6:18 p.m. PT — Ronnie HillmanThe family just released a statement … saying Ronnie was diagnosed with medullary renal carcinoma, “a rare but highly aggressive form of cancer that affects young African-Americans with sickle cell trait,” in August.

Hillman has undergone treatment, but to no avail. The family says they are being kept comfortable and out of pain at the hospital.

“As a family, we hope beyond hope, and we have faith that can move mountains,” the family said. “We also understand that God’s will is not always ours; therefore, as a family we are subject to the will of our Almighty God.”

Former Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman, a third-round pick in 2012, is fighting for his life in the hospital … his former teammates said Tuesday.
Orlando Franklin — who helped lock Hillman for three seasons in Denver — initially broke the sad news on his Twitter page … asking Broncos fans to pray for the former tailback.
“He’s in hospice and he’s not doing well,” Franklin said.
Another of Hillman’s former teammates, Derek Wolfesaid Tuesday that the 31-year-old is battling “bad liver cancer.”
“It doesn’t look good,” Wolfe said 104.3 Fan on tuesday “He has pneumonia and I’m putting him there to send positive vibes.”
Hillman played for the Broncos from 2012 to 2015 and contributed Peyton Manning and the rest of the teams have won Super Bowl 50. Wolfe was remembered Tuesday as a “great football player, a great person, a great teammate” and “a really great guy.”

Hillman, who starred at San Diego State before starting his NFL career, also played for the Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys during his career.
