Former Yankee and student QB Austin Awn enters the NCAA transfer portal
The profile of former Yankees draft pick Austin Ahn continues to grow.
Awn enrolled at TCU in 2012 as a three-star high school prospect in Texas but had aspirations of playing in the MLB.
Aune, who played at Argyle High School, was selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft.
Aune decided to pursue a career in baseball, spending six years in the The Bronx Bombers organizationbut he never pitched above High-A ball.
During his time with the Yankees, the outfielder played in 387 games for four different teams, batting .246 in 1,563 plate appearances and had 322 hits with 20 home runs. In 2017, at the age of 23, he completed his performance with the Yankees.
Awn finished his baseball career and joined the Arkansas Razorbacks football program in 2018, where he participated in spring practice before transferring to North Texas.
Awn sat out his freshman year after transferring and returned to redshirt in 2019. He was listed as the third-string quarterback in 2021, but was named the starter midway through the season.
Aune led the Mean Green to a 7-7 record in 2022 with 232 carries for 3,547 yards and 34 touchdowns.
