Randy Gregory, Oday Aboushi suspensions overturned
LOS ANGELES – One day after the NFL suspension Denver Broncos linebacker Randy Gregory and Los Angeles Rams the guard Old Aboushi Discipline has been reduced to fines for a game of punching after LA’s win on Sunday.
The NFL announced Tuesday that appeals officers Derrick Brooks and James Thrash reduced the discipline to a $50,000 fine for Gregory and a $12,000 fine for Aboushi.
The incident happened after the team gathered in the middle of the field. Gregory and Aboushi exchanged words first, before Gregory punched Aboushi in the helmet. Then Aboushi hit him back. The couple quickly separated.
In letters sent to players on Monday, NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan said: “While walking toward a group of teammates, coaches and the media, you both stopped and swung at each other in the head and/or neck. Aggressive behavior could have resulted in serious injury and clearly did not reflects the high standard of sport expected of a professional”.
Later that day, the Rams right tackle Rob Havenstein he said he saw the exchange and didn’t think Aboushi was “wrong.”
“He hit her first, she tried to get away on several occasions, from the looks of it and from what I saw,” Havenstein said. “I think the video is pretty clear. He was walking away and he was being chased.”
Gregory apologized for what happened Monday night, saying what happened was “not a reflection of my character.”
“My goal is to finish this season strong, play with pride and be part of the solution and not part of the problem going forward,” he said.
