Dodgers news: MLB writer predicts boys in blue will win it all in 2023 – Inside the Dodgers
It’s now 2023, so it’s time to put the past behind us and start looking to the future.
Yes, the disappointing NLDS loss happened, but the Dodgers aren’t expected to bounce back after losing Trea and Justin Turner and Tyler Anderson.
Instead, the team picked up where it left off, assessed the situation and decided to bring in Noah Syndergaard to add to the pitching rotation, sign JD Martinez to a one-year contract for that designated hitter role and have decided to rely a little more on their youth next year.
Risky, but they’re also supposedly trying to dip into their luxury tax, which is why they didn’t sign any of those big names that were on the free agency market this winter. Oh yeah, and Clayton Kershaw will be back too.
With all that said, MLB writer Anthony Castrovince makes a very early prediction of who he thinks will end up winning the annual Fall Classic:
“The Dodgers won 111 games last year, but somehow they’re not the hot item on the menu. Because they usually come up short in October because they lost big pieces in free agency while abstained from the high end of the free agent market, van won’t be as popular a win-it-all pick as it once was.
His inaction creates opportunity, and I’m taking advantage of it. Give me those underdog Dodgers to win it all, because — news — they’re still really good. Younger, perhaps, as prospects like Miguel Vargas, James Outman and Bobby Miller begin to fill big, but very, very good league roles. And with Walker Buehler perhaps inching toward a September comeback, they could enter October poised to overcome the heartbreak of past postseasons. In the World Series, they’ll defeat a Yankees team finally getting over the ALCS hump.
Dodgers over Yankees. So it is written, so it shall be.
All this is true. The Dodgers without Trea Turner are still very good. They’ll also have the two-headed monster of Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts for several years, while also giving some of the youngsters a chance to break into the big leagues and start making a difference.
It looks like there are still a few holes to fill and questions to answer, but the Dodgers still have a few more weeks before spring training to figure it all out. And who knows, maybe once they do, LA will march all the way to the World Series like they did in 2020.
