The suspended Bills-Bengals game will not resume this week, per the NFL
The game between CINCINNATI — Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals that was suspended after security on monday night Damar Hamlin he suffered cardiac arrest will not resume this week, the NFL announced Tuesday.
The NFL said in a statement that commissioner Roger Goodell informed the teams this week that the game would not resume after consulting with both teams and NFL Players Association management. The league, however, has not made a decision to start the game later.
The league said in a statement that it has not made any changes to the Week 18 schedule.
“The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, as well as the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association,” the league said in a statement.
Hamlin spent Monday night in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and remains in critical condition, according to a statement from the Bills on Tuesday.
“We are grateful and grateful for the outpouring of support we have received so far,” Bills said in the statement.
The Bills plan to host next New England Patriots on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, CBS). It is organized by Bengal Baltimore Ravens, but the timing of that game is unclear, as it was dependent on the outcome of the game against the Bills. It will be played at 13:00 or 16:25 (CBS).
CPR Hamlin, 24, collapsed on the field for many minutes after tackling the Bengals wide receiver. Tee Higgins. Hamlin received oxygen, according to ESPN’s broadcast, 16 minutes after entering the ambulance and collapsing off the field. Then he was taken to the hospital.
The injury occurred after Hamlin tackled Higgins near midfield following a reception by the Bengals wideout. Higgins drove with his right shoulder and hit Hamlin in the chest. Hamlin quickly got up after that, stayed on his feet for about three seconds and then suddenly collapsed. Athletic trainers immediately came out to help, and carried a stretcher onto the field while the trainer protected Hamlin’s head.
The Bills returned to Buffalo, New York early Tuesday. Several league teams canceled media availability Tuesday because of the situation.
