Sabers pays tribute to Bills safety Damar Hamlin

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Sabers honored Bills safety Damar Hamlin with a moment of celebration before Saturday night’s home game against the Minnesota Wild.

Hamlin is on the long road to recovery after he went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field in Cincinnati on Monday night. He’s breathing on his own now and briefly addressed the Bills team via video on Friday.

The Sabers and Bills are owned by Terry and Kim Pegula, and players on the teams have developed a bond and friendships through that connection.

Fans throughout the crowd displayed signs that read “DH3” with a heart or “Love For Damar” and were shown on the video board showing their support for Hamlin. The pregame celebration saw the crowd, many dressed in Bills jerseys, rise to their feet, clapping and cheering for Hamlin.

The Sabers also paid tribute to Hamlin before Tuesday’s game in Washington with T-shirts that read “Love For 3” upon arrival at Capital One Arena.
