California transfer WR J.Michael Sturdivant is transferring to UCLA Football

Former California wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant committed to football from UCLA on Friday, the junior standout announced on Twitter. Sturdivant entered the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 4 after two seasons at Berkeley and has three years of eligibility remaining with the Bruins.
Sturdivant also drew serious interest from TCU, but he canceled his official visit to Fort Worth and instead committed to UCLA.
Sturdivant became the 11th transfer to the Bruins since the end of the regular season. He joined UPenn quarterback Jake Heimlicher, linebacker Cal Oluwafemi Oladeha, Princeton tight end Will Powers, Kent State quarterback Colin Schlee, Purdue left tackle Spencer Holstage, Army running back Anthony Adkins, Oregon tight end Maliki Matawao, Montana State kicker Blake Glessner , Ball State running back Carson Steele and Bowling Green quarterback Jordan Anderson.
UCLA has now added three transfers from the Pac-12 alone – Oladejo, Matavao and Sturdivant.
After recording three tackles on special teams and redshirting his true freshman year, Sturdivant has become one of the most productive pass catchers in the conference this fall. Sturdivant appeared in all 12 games at Cal, rushing for 755 yards and seven touchdowns on 65 receptions.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver finished his freshman season with five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown against UCLA on Nov. 25.

The Athletic and College Football News both named Sturdivant to their freshman first-team All-American selections. The Texas native ranks 6th in the Pac-12 in receiving touchdowns, 8th in receptions per game and 10th in receiving yards per game.
Sturdivant was a four-star recruit out of Marcus (Texas) High School in 2021, and the Bruins extended an offer to him then. But Jerry Neuheisel has since replaced Jimmy Dougherty as UCLA’s wide receivers coach, and Neuheisel has made a habit of using transfer pucks over the past few years.
Kam Brown came from Texas A&M in 2021, while Jake Bobo came from Duke and Titus Mokiao-Atimalala came from UCF in 2022.
With Bobo ineligible, Kazmeir Allen headed for the NFL Draft and Matt Sykes on the transfer window himself, Sturdivant has a chance to be the Bruins’ top target in the passing game. Class of 2023 four-stars Jeremiah McClure and Grant Gray should also join the roster, while Class of 2022 four-star Jadin Marshall should take on a bigger role himself.
USC receivers Kyle Ford and Gary Bryant Jr. — two former four-stars themselves — also recently entered the transfer window and could be options for UCLA if the staff wants some extra reinforcements atop Sturdivant.
