UConn Huskies center Adama Sanogo on national awards lists

UConn Men’s Basketball junior Adama Sanogo was named to a pair of midseason lists for national honors Thursday.

Sanogo earned a spot on the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List and was on The Sporting News Midseason College Basketball Team.

He was already named to the midseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award and was the Big East Preseason Player of the Year.

The Basketball Writers Association of America awards the Oscar Robertson Trophy to the National Player of the Year. There are 50 players on the midseason watch list, and Sanogo is one of five in the Big East, along with Xavier’s Souley Boum, Providence’s Bryce Hopkins, Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner and St. John’s Jowl Soriano. The Sporting News honored 15 players with its midseason All-America Team. Sanogo was named to the third team and was one of two Big East players named, along with Boum to the second team.

Sanogo, a 6-foot-9 center, is averaging 17.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game through 20 games. Sanogo is shooting 75.8% overall and 37.9% from 3-point range. He ranks second in the Big East in scoring, seventh in field goal percentage and 10th in rebounding.
