2023 five-star cornerback Kormani McClain said Carl Reed of 247Sports on Thursday that he committed to Colorado after the promise Miami for nearly two months before the early signing period. With Deion Sanders as head coach, the Buffaloes were late to get McClain, who 247Sports ranked as the best quarterback in his class.

With a .9950 rating in the 247Sports Composite, McClain immediately becomes one of Colorado’s highest-rated commits of all time. He is ranked as the No. 9 overall player in his class by 247Sports and ranked No. 12 in the 247Sports Composite.

Colorado is coming off a 1-11 season, and McClain should have a chance to get early playing time with Sanders’ tenure starting.

News of a possible change in McClain’s plans initially surfaced on the first day of the early signing period in December, when his mother shared on social media that her son would not sign from Miami, as expected. Shortly after, Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports, revealed that Colorado contacted McClain.

Here it is intelligence report on McClain from 247Sports Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins:

A potential new-age cornerback who has a chance to be a difference-maker at the highest levels of football given his rare combination of size, length and speed. Began prep career playing primarily wide receiver before moving to defensive end. Established himself immediately as a perimeter defender in the Sunshine State’s premier competition, with nine assists as a sophomore and 10 more as a sophomore. Still very raw from a technical point of view, but sporty enough to carry and tackle most vertical routes. The long-legged transitions aren’t exactly perfect, but he can put himself in position to make a play at the catch point and can close gaps quickly with elite burst.

It’s not surprising to see Sanders have a lot of early success on the recruiting trail, especially with a prospect like McClain playing a position that Sanders has specialized in during his Hall of Fame career. Like Sanders, McClain also served as an offensive weapon during his high school career.

The Buffs previously landed CB Travis Hunter, who followed Sanders from Jackson State to CU after becoming the No. 1 prospect in the 2022 class. Sanders snubbed Hunter from an expected signing with his alma mater, Florida State, at the start of the shock signing period last offseason.
