You never know what you’re going to see at a Lakers game in Los Angeles. Celebrities on the court are regulars and occasionally joke around (friendly or not so friendly) with the players during the game. It’s usually done in the spirit of competition, but occasionally things can get out of hand.

That’s exactly what happened right after the halftime buzzer during the lakers‘ 122-121 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Friday at Crypto.com Arena, when the Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end and Fox Sports’ Shannon Sharpe got into a heated exchange with several members of the Grizzlies.

It all seemed to start when Memphis went ahead Dillon Brooks he had words for Sharpe on his way to the locker room. Sharpe wasn’t having it, and motioned for Brooks to come to him. Center for the Grizzlies Steven Adams then headed towards Sharpe as a crowd of players and security guards began to form. Finally, Tee Morant, the father of the Grizzlies point guard And Moranthe joined, and Sharpe turned his attention to him as the two were separated.

According to ESPN’s Mark Jackson, Tee Morant said his “blood pressure didn’t go up a bit, nothing but love and respect for Shannon Sharpe.”

“They didn’t want that smoke,” Sharpe told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin at halftime. “They do all this talking and jockeying and I don’t mean that jockey. It started with Dillon Brooks. I said he was too small to guard LeBron. He said, ‘F—‘ me. I told him ‘F —‘ I turned to you. He started coming towards me and I said, “You don’t want this trouble.” And then Ja came out of nowhere talking. He definitely didn’t want this trouble. Then dad came and of course I didn’t want any trouble. But I wanted anything they had. Don’t let those fools fool you now.”

Cooler heads seemed to prevail as Sharpe took his seat for the second half. Sharpe and Tee Morant were later seen sharing a hug at the end of the third quarter.

Brooks responded after the game, saying that Sharpe should not have been left in the arena after the altercation.

Lakers superstar LeBron James expressed his support for Sharpe after the win.

“I run with Shannon 365 days, 366 in a leap year, 24/7. That’s my man,” James said. “I’ll always have his back. He can talk to the best of them, that’s for sure.”

Fortunately, things didn’t escalate to the point of a physical altercation, but it was certainly a memorable night in Los Angeles.
