Bengals-Chiefs AFC Championship: Kansas City makes 5 turnovers before Sunday’s game
On Saturday, again Kansas City Chiefs he made five changes before Sunday’s AFC Championship against Cincinnati Bengals at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
As expected, the Chiefs activated Jody Fortson from the reserve/injured list to the active list. The team has promoted two practice wide receivers to the active roster for Sunday’s game: Marcus Kemp and Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Both are likely to be used on special teams; Kemp is one of the best players on that unit.
The team also released hybrid running back/wide receiver Jerrion Ealy from the practice squad and filled that spot with running back La’Mical Perine.

Fortson – along with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire – were both appointed to return From Reserve/Injured on January 17th. That opened up a 21-day window where he could practice with both teams and be activated on the roster. Fortson was listed with an elbow injury on Dec. 23; Edwards-Helaire was placed on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain on Nov. 23.
Edwards-Helaire must be activated on the list by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7th. Otherwise, the runner will be ineligible to play again this season.
Fortson is taking over the roster spot that the Chiefs opened He took away defensive back (and one of the special teams) Chris Lammons from Monday’s list. Kemp and Smith-Marsette will automatically return to the practice squad after Sunday’s game.
For Perine – fourth round pick (120th overall). New York Jets 2020 – Appeared in 14 games in 2020 and 2021, averaging 3.7 yards per attempt on 72 carries (and scoring two touchdowns) before ending the 2021 season on injured reserve. Released by New York in the final cut of 2022, the 5-foot-11, 216-pound Florida product spent the remainder of the 2022 season on the practice squad. Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.
