Diego Llorente from “Leeds” is going on loan to “Roma”.
Leeds United defender Diego Llorente is set to sign for Roma on loan – just weeks after agreeing a new contract at Elland Road.
Llorente, 29, is in Italy to complete a temporary move that could see him out League side to take it forever in the summer.
Leeds want a permanent purchase commitment as part of the deal, although an option has also been mooted.
If activated, the full-time move would allow Leeds to recoup the £18m they paid for Llorente when they signed him from Real society in 2020.
Llorente has signed a new deal at Elland Road most recently, on December 23extending its term until 2026.
Leeds had agreed an extension to protect their value with Llorente’s previous contract set to expire in 2024, but the recent signing of Max Wobber allowed the Spain international to exceed the demands.
Wobber arrived from RB Salzburg earlier this window and despite being recruited by Leeds as an option at left-back, he has made few appearances at left-centre-back to date – at that same position as Llorente.
Leeds are also in the process of signing another centre-back, 18-year-old Portuguese Diogo Monteirofrom Servette in Switzerland.
Monteiro has arrived in England and is preparing to undergo a medical as Leeds aim to complete the move before tomorrow’s deadline.
Monteiro will initially join United’s under-21 squad, but the club hope he will soon progress into first-team action.
