BU’s Parulek and ISU’s Naklo had 12 big weekly honors
Baylor’s Thaddeus Parulek and Iowa State’s Tasaporn Naklo were named among the top 12 tennis players of the week for the third week of the season. This is Parulek’s first career award, while it is Naklo’s second career award, with the first award coming on January 28, 2020.
Parulek finished the ITA Kickoff Weekend 4-0, picking up the fourth point, winning both singles matches and helping Baylor beat No. 9 Florida State. ) and Loris Puroy from Florida State (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), including giving McKennan his first loss of the season.
In doubles, he boasts a perfect 5-0 record with teammate Zombor Welch as they are ranked the No. 59 duo in the country. The duo defeated Florida State’s Max Silagy and Joshua Doos-Karpenschiff 6-4 for their second win of the weekend after defeating Arizona State’s Jacob Bullard and Roy Ginato the day before.
Naklo helped Iowa State defeat a pair of ranked opponents and advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the first time in school history. The Bangkok, Thailand native finished the weekend 3-1, including a comeback win against No. 14 Alexa Noel. Naklo defeated Noel (Miami) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 for her fourth singles victory against a ranked opponent this season.
The senior won both doubles matches with teammate Anna Supapitch Querum to help the Cyclones sweep ranked opponents in back-to-back matches for the first time in program history. The pair defeated UCLA’s Ava Katanzarite and Fangran Tian 6-2, then won 6-4 over Miami’s duo of Devenia Achong and Mai Tahan to wrap up the weekend’s doubles action.
