Tom Brady has a simple solution that can help with all the bad officiating calls in the NFL

“The refs got a tough job. Are they going to get all the calls right? Is anybody 100% on their job? It’s a tough job. Decisions are being made in a millisecond,” Brady said of the controversial penalties. via Pro Football Talk. “Here’s what I think…they used three terms: it was clear, it was obvious, and it was…long. In the end, that was going to be my barometer for throwing flags.”

If a penalty is clear, obvious, and long, Brady wants to call the penalty. Along with those guidelines, Brady seems willing to throw a flag if the penalty affects the game.

“If he meets those criteria, punishment,” Brady said. “Holding, illegal defensive contact, offensive pass interference. It could be obvious, but it can be quick and it doesn’t affect the game that much. [so don’t throw the flag].”

Brady also pointed out that the officials are under almost unfair pressure because every penalty is scrutinized, especially in the playoffs.

“When you get to the playoffs, a lot of times they don’t call it in the playoffs, and I think we really like it as players. We like it when they let us play,” Brady said. “Now, can that go too far? Absolutely. If you’re thinking about rule changes in refereeing, it’s very difficult because when you slow them down to a millisecond on a TV review, yeah, everybody’s going to be up in arms about everything, but when you’re monitoring those things in real time, it’s very they’re happening fast, so I think being clear, obvious, and long is a great way to mock and hold back.
