A new wind farm will be built in Lithuania

A new one is being built in Lithuania wind power plants park – in Kruopiai borough (Akmenė district), the company “Enefit Green” plans to build a park “Akmenė” within 7 months. On Thursday, the Deputy Minister of Energy Daiva Garbaliauskaitė participated in the celebrations during which the cornerstone was laid in one of the foundations of 14 new turbines.

The new 75 MW wind farm is expected to produce electricity as early as April 2023.

“Living in a time of energy war, the rapid development of renewable energy is extremely important for both our country and Europe. Each similar project is a step towards the national strategic goal of producing 100 percent of electricity from renewable energy sources in 2030,” says Deputy Minister D. Garbaliauskaitė.

With Europe facing an energy crisis and witnessing one record after another for electricity prices, it is critical to get as much renewable electricity into the market as possible as soon as possible.

Akmenė wind farm will be the largest wind farm developed by Enefit Green in Lithuania so far. This 75 MW wind farm will produce about 258 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity annually, which will meet the needs of 80 thousand average households.

Construction of this wind farm, which will include 14 wind turbines supplied by General Electric, began in February this year, and electricity is expected to be produced in April next year.

Enefit Green is the largest producer of wind energy in the Baltic States – in Lithuania alone, the company manages five wind farms with a total capacity of 139 MW. The company is currently developing four wind farm projects: two in Lithuania, one each in Finland and Estonia. The total capacity of these developing wind farms exceeds 200 MW, and the investments in them amount to 250 million euros.
