Well, of course, I was in Vegas, I tried to win money there,” laughed the American.
On the first day of his stay in our country, K. Hayes, who flew to Lithuania together with another “Žalgiris” newcomer Keenan Evans, managed to look around the center of Kaunas, where the basketball players were met by fans who asked to take pictures. The player was impressed by the knowledge of the “Zalgiris” fans about the team.
“A few people stopped me and I had even forgotten that I was wearing a green shirt, so they recognized me straight away. They said they were very happy to see me on the team. You can immediately understand that people here understand basketball well and know the news, because it was only recently announced that I came to Kaunas. It was fun that people already knew who I am,” said the basketball player.
The tall player, who will start the fourth season of his professional career in Europe, has played in clubs in Italy, France and Turkey. K. Hayes is happy that he will compete for the first time in the country where the sport he represents is the most popular.
“I heard a lot of good things about Lithuania. I know basketball is very popular here. Basketball is very important for Kaunas. I can’t wait to feel it myself, all that energy. Here, everyone cares about basketball, and the team’s fans are a huge support. It makes you play even better,” explained K. Hayes.
2020-2021 K. Hayes, who made his EuroLeague debut in the season with Villerban ASVEL club, will return to the strongest club basketball tournament of the Old Continent after the break of the season spent in the Bursa club. Before the second exam in the Euroleague, the basketball player hopes that he will be able to show that he has improved.
“I think that the game in Zalgiris is a great opportunity for me to show myself.” I feel a very good atmosphere in the team, everyone is very nice. I think that if you get along well with everyone, you can play well with others. If I can say something to others and they are not too sensitive, at least for now, then I can say things with confidence.
As a player, it is very important for me that I returned to the EuroLeague. I want to show how much and where I have improved. I want to see where I am compared to other Euroleague players after not playing in this tournament for several years. Returning to the EuroLeague will show where I still have to improve in attack and defense. I want to improve and improve my skills in the game I love,” said the native of Zalgiris.
