An intriguing friendly match was played between two countries preparing for the European Championship.
The Finnish national team in their own territory after extra time 97:94 (16:20, 31:24, 15:27, 25:16, 10:7) broke Ukraine.
In the middle of the fourth quarter, the Ukrainians still led with a double-digit difference (81:71), but they scattered everything and later Alexei Len had to equalize the result – 87:87. Sasu Salin’s shot, which could have become the winner, went wide and the national team had to play an extra five minutes.
In Pratėsime, the Ukrainian national team started with no result, but after extending its show Lauri Markkanen determined the outcome of the match.
The raging tall man scored 42 points (7/11 two-pointers, 4/12 three-pointers, 16/18 free throws), 9 rebounds and 3 steals, an assist, a block, 4 fouls, even 13 provoked fouls and 38 utility points in 38 minutes.
He was best helped by Alexander Madsen who scored 15 points (7 rebounds), 11 by S.Salinas (6 assists), 9 by Petteri Koponen.
Sviatoslav Mikhailiuk scored 20 points for the Ukrainian national team (5 rebounds, 5 errors, 3/8 three-pointers), 13 – Issuf Sanon (6 rebounds), 12 – Volodymyr Herun (6 rebounds).
The Finns will start the European Championship in Group D, the Ukrainian team will compete with the teams in Group C.
