revealed how he will honor her memory

In the first emotional message the new Prince of Wales has issued since his grandmother’s death, William, 40, wrote that “it will take time for me to come to grips with the reality of life without my grandmother”.

When Charles ascended the throne, William became the heir to the throne and will undoubtedly have a shorter wait for the crown than his 73-year-old father, who spent most of his life waiting to succeed his mother and became king when most people have already retired.

Due to the Queen’s age and poor health, William has taken on more official duties in recent years, a clear sign of his future role.

He called the Queen, who died on Thursday aged 97, an “exceptional leader” and praised her “absolute” commitment to Britain, the Commonwealth of Nations and the 14 other countries where she was also head of state.

“So much will be said in the coming days about the significance of her historic reign,” the prince noted.

“But I lost my grandmother. And while I mourn her passing, I also feel incredibly grateful.”

William noted that he had drawn on the Queen’s wisdom and support throughout his life.

According to him, the Queen supported his wife Catherine and the couple’s three children – George, Charlotte and Louis – spent a holiday with her that will last a lifetime.

“She was there for the happiest moments of my life. And she was there for the saddest days of my life,” William wrote.

“I knew this day would come, but it will take time to realize the reality of life without my grandmother.”

“I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me.”

“And on behalf of my generation, I thank her for her example of service and dignity in public life, which, although she was from another generation, has always been important to us all.”

“My grandmother used to say that mourning is the price we pay for love.”

“All the sadness we feel in the coming weeks will be a testament to the love we felt for our exceptional Queen.”

“I will honor her memory by supporting my father, the king, in every way I can.”
