The FIBA Challenger tournament in France is no less intriguing. Here we will see two clubs from our country – Šakių “Gulbelė” and Trakai GEALAN. It is the participation of the latter that attracts the most attention – this team will be baptized in a tournament of this level.

“The fact that the name of Trakai is included in the lists of the best teams in the world is not only a source of pride for the players, but also allows us to think about the development of the 3×3 sport in our city,” said Trakai district mayor Andrius Šatevičius. – The players and GEALAN make the name of Trakai famous in the world, and this is nothing but a gift and an impetus to go together with these athletes, support them and be one of those cities that not only understand the value, but also want to contribute to even greater achievements.”

Having become a new force in Lithuanian 3×3 basketball, and now also flying into international waters, the Trakai club is ambitiously looking at triples basketball and its future.

“First of all, we aim to become an open, innovative, innovation-seeking municipality, so as I have already mentioned, we look at this resurgent, fairly new sport for the public as an extremely promising one in the sports field of our municipality,” said A. Šatevičius. – We are already making plans on how the municipality can contribute to popularizing this sport and creating conditions, and we believe that Trakai could invite athletes to hold matches in our city as well. Especially since we are already building a new gym that will be dedicated to the city.”

The core of Trakai GEALAN will be the members of the youth national team – Augustinas Mikštas, Benas Aleliūnas, Dovydas Rimkus and Gabrielius Čelka. This composition reflects the philosophy of the Trakai district.

“Youth are the driving force. Over time, he, the youth, gets even stronger, shows even better results. I am very happy and appreciate the young strength and the perspective of the youth, – explained the mayor of Trakai district, A. Šatevičius. – I would like the team to continue to be formed and over time to be supplemented by a new generation that appreciates not only this sport, but also strives for results in the professional arena.”

GEALAN’s opponents in the group are the team from Jeddah, which will include Ovidijus Varanauskas and Darius Tarvydas, as well as the team coming from the selection. The hockey club will meet teams from Tel Aviv and Paris.
