What should have been an intriguing control match between two national teams preparing for the European Championship did not live up to expectations.
The French national team in Montpellier even 100:68 (25:14, 26:26, 25:15, 24:13) crushed Italy.
The Italians managed to hold their own in the first half of the match (40:51), but after the long break, the difference grew by one point every minute and the hosts had no problems.
Elie Okobo was the author of the most outstanding individual performance – 19 minutes, 18 points (2/2 double-pointers, 4/5 three-pointers, 2/2 free throws), a rebound and a turnover, 4 assists, 4 fouls and 21 utility points.
He was best assisted by Thomas Heurtel (6 rebounds) and Evan Fournier (4/6 three-pointers) who scored 13 points each, Rudy Gobert (6 rebounds) and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot added 10 each.
The French punished the opponents the hardest on the perimeter, hitting even 58 percent of three-pointers (14/24).
Nicolo Melli scored 13 points for the Italian team (7 rebounds), Danilo Gallinari scored 11, and Achille Polonara scored 9.
The French will start in Group B of the European Championship together with the Lithuanian national team, the Italians will start their campaign in Group C.
