The director had proposed this production of “Rigolet” to Italian theaters a dozen years ago, but for various reasons the project did not turn into a performance then. Only in 2022 on January 20, two and a half years after the director’s death, the world premiere of “Rigolet”, based on the sketches and directorial notes left by F. Zeffirelli premiere finally saw the light of the stage at the Royal Opera House in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, according to a press release.
Now it’s time to see the last work of F. Zeffirelli for the audience of Vilnius. And the fact that they were eagerly waiting for this production is well proven by the fact that a week before the opening of the LNOBT season, there were no seats left in all six performances of Rigoletto in September.
On the festive evening of the first premiere in the capital of Lithuania, the role of Rigoletto was performed by Sándor Balla (Romania), Leonor Bonilla Caballos (Spain) of Gildas, Duke of Mantua – Edgar Montvid. Opera soloists appeared in other roles Ieva PrudnikovaitėJovita Vaškevičiūtė, Tadas Girininkas, Liudas Mikalauskas, Arūnas Malikėnas and others. The music director of the premiere is LNOBT Chief conductor Ričardas Šumila.
Starting the new LNOBT season, “Rigolets” is a joint production of LNOBT and Muscat Royal Opera House. Other performances of Rigoletto this season are on September 17, 20, 21, 22, 23 and March 2, 3, 4.
